As a specialist in executive function, I have observed a disturbing trend: rising screen time is directly linked to declining focus and social friction. Inspired by Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation, our summer math programs are strictly screen-free. We don’t just teach math; we rebuild the cognitive stamina and socials skills students need to succeed.
The Summer Pivot: 2-Week Course Intensives for Advanced Tracks
In late summer, we shift focus to bridge the gap for the upcoming school year. These sessions provide a strategic "leg up" for:
- Advanced 1
- Advanced 2
- Algebra 1 (advanced)
Guided by extensive research and experience, we review the previous year, break down the most difficult topics, and prepare students for their best year.
All summer experiences include rich social experiences and healthy snacks. Lots of healthy snacks.
What is the advanced track? Starting in 3rd grade, BVSD tracks students into advanced or regular level courses. Adv 1, Adv 2, and Algebra 1 are the middle school advanced tracks. Although somewhat uncommon, students as young as 5th grader can be tracked into these.
