Algebra 1 Readiness Intensive

Algebra 1 is one of the most important math transitions in middle and high school. Students are expected to move beyond arithmetic and begin thinking with variables, equations, graphs, and multi-step problem solving.

RiT’s Algebra 1 Readiness Intensive helps students enter the fall with stronger skills, clearer habits, and more confidence.

This is a small-group summer course for BVSD-area students entering Algebra 1. Each class is capped at four students, allowing for focused instruction, diagnostic attention, and individualized feedback.

Students strengthen the core skills that make Algebra 1 easier to manage:

• Solving one-step, two-step, and multi-step equations
• Working accurately with fractions, decimals, and negative numbers
• Translating word problems into equations
• Understanding variables, expressions, and equality
• Building graphing and linear relationship foundations
• Showing clear work and checking answers
• Developing stronger math habits for the school year

This is not a worksheet camp. RiT uses a diagnostic tutoring method: we look for the specific gaps, habits, and misunderstandings that are likely to slow a student down in Algebra 1.

Students receive direct instruction, guided practice, problem-solving routines, and executive-function support for organizing their work.

This course is a strong fit for students who:

• Are entering Algebra 1 in the fall
• Did well in previous math classes but still feel shaky with fractions, equations, or word problems
• Tend to rush, skip steps, or lose track of multi-step problems
• Need more confidence before starting a harder math course
• Would benefit from a small, focused group instead of a large math camp

Small group: 4 students maximum; mixed ages
Format: focused summer intensive
Instruction: diagnostic tutoring, guided practice, and math habits
Led by: Dr. Erik Dutilly and RiT-trained tutors
