If people knew how hard I worked to achieve my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful after all."

Study Skills

Learning how to study is an education cornerstone. Depite a near scientific consensu on study skills, students rarely use the most effective methods. For example, students often will often do a practice test once, reread a chapter, and highlight pages. These are among the least effective study methods.

RiT tutors teach students how to maximize their time and effort for real, long-term gains. We teach students systems to ace test and keep the informaiton in memory for the final exam. Two of our favorite methods are active recall and spaced repetition. We also love ditigal and paper flashcards. These methods alone will send your child's learning into hyperdrive. They're easy, creative, and fun to use.

Good study methods require planning, a sense of time, and scheduling. This is why we specialize in combining study skills with executive function instruction. We teach move behind study skills and help students create system plans and methods. This is how students become independent learners.

Study Skills We Love to Teach

Spaced Repetition

Using Practice Tests

Spaced Repetition

Spaced repetition is probably one of the most powerful techniques in learning and memory. In a nutshell, it is about taking breaks between study sessions to allow for controlled learning. Perfect for vocabulary and dates and facts.

Active Recall

Using Practice Tests

Spaced Repetition

Active recall is the idea that students have to force themselves to explain or conjure up the information on their own. They cannot just read or highlight passively. This is another of the most potent learning techniques.

Using Practice Tests

Using Practice Tests

Practice tests are among the best tools beacuse they give youa sense of your current preparedness. If you can ace two or three diffierent practice tests, you'll probably rock the exam. Practice tests include "mega problem sets", another related study technique for math and physics.

Magic Flashcards

Using ChatGPT to Study

Using Practice Tests

Flashcards, both digital and paper, are highly effective tools for committing informaiton to memory. They're portable and easy to use. We help students perfect the art of the magic flashcard.

Mnemonics

Mnemonics are a playful way of developing acronyms, abreviations, and quirky sentences to committ huge volumes of information to memory. They are like shortcuts for the memory.

Artificial Intelligence is changing the landscape of education. While it's often associated with cheating, AI can be used to generate tons of useful study materials and practice test. We teach responsible use of AI.
