Learning how to study is an education cornerstone. Despite a near scientific consensus on effective study skills, schools rarely inform students about how to study. For example, students commonly fill out a test review sheet, read a chapter, and highlight pages. These are among the least effective study methods.
RiT tutors teach students how to maximize their time and effort for real, long-term gains. We teach students systems to ace test and keep the informationi in memory for the final exam. Two of our favorite methods are active recall and spaced repetition. We also love ditigal and paper flashcards. These methods alone will send your child's learning into hyperdrive. They're easy, creative, and fun to use.
Artificial Intelligence, like ChatGPT, are changing how students can study. These new programs open up a new frontier for supercharging studying and learning. Instead of boring passive study techniques, students can begin to design their own practice tests and quizzes. This is mind-bending, cutting-edge stuff and we love to spend time with students showing them the ins and outs.
Good study methods require planning, a sense of time, and scheduling. This is why we combine study skills with executive function instruction. We teach students how to create study plans and how to follow them. This is how students become independent learners.

3 Tips from improving Memory for Learning (Taken from the Huberman Podcast)
Middle school is an ideal time to learn how to study.
Spaced repetition is probably one of the most powerful techniques in learning and memory. In a nutshell, it is about taking breaks between study sessions to allow for controlled learning. Perfect for vocabulary and dates and facts.
Active recall is the idea that students have to force themselves to explain or conjure up the information on their own. They cannot just read or highlight passively. This is another of the most potent learning techniques.
Practice tests are among the best tools beacuse they give youa sense of your current preparedness. If you can ace two or three diffierent practice tests, you'll probably rock the exam. Practice tests include "mega problem sets", another related study technique for math and physics.
Flashcards, both digital and paper, are highly effective tools for committing informaiton to memory. They're portable and easy to use. We help students perfect the art of the magic flashcard.
Mnemonics are a playful way of developing acronyms, abreviations, and quirky sentences to committ huge volumes of information to memory. They are like shortcuts for the memory.
Artificial Intelligence is changing the landscape of education. While it's often associated with cheating, AI can be used to generate tons of useful study materials and practice test. We teach responsible use of AI.
